The infrared sauna and circulating ice bath in a private contrast room at Renew

Private
contrast
rooms

An infrared sauna and a circulating ice bath at 6 to 8 degrees, in a room with the door shut. You move between the two at your own pace.

30 min $75 · 60 min $95 · Two rooms, each fits 2 to 3

A session

Heat until you have properly had enough of it, then straight into cold that takes your breath away, then the odd floaty calm in between. The swing between the two is the whole point.

  1. Sauna

Infrared warms your body directly rather than heating the air, so you can breathe easily and hold a conversation while you sweat. You stay until you are genuinely done with it.

  2. Plunge

The ice bath sits at 6 to 8 degrees and circulates, so it stays cold the whole way through. The first fifteen seconds are the hard part: your breathing goes short and fast and the job is to slow it back down. After that it settles.

  3. Repeat

Back into the heat, and round again. You set the number of rounds and how long each one runs. Nobody is timing you, and stepping out at the end is reliably the best part.

Questions

Do I have to get in the ice bath?

No. Plenty of people book a private room and use the sauna only, and plenty get in the plunge to the waist and stop there. You set the pace, and nobody is watching a clock.

How cold is the plunge, really?

6 to 8 degrees, and it circulates so it holds that temperature the whole session rather than warming up around you. That is cold enough that the first fifteen seconds are work.

Should I check with my doctor first?

Yes, if you have a heart condition, problems with your blood pressure, or you are pregnant. Moving quickly between hot and cold asks more of your heart than either one on its own, so this is the therapy to be most careful with. Please do not come in having had a drink, and never use the plunge without staff in the building.

30 minutes or 60?

Sixty if it is your first time, because the first round is mostly working out what you are doing. Thirty suits someone coming regularly who knows their routine, or someone adding contrast to a combination package.

Can I bring someone?

Yes. Each room fits 2 to 3 and a second person is $25. Members also bring a friend free every Monday for contrast therapy, as long as it is genuinely their first time here.

Two rooms, and they book out first at the end of the day. Worth picking your time rather than turning up.
