Groups on
the rooftop
Two saunas, an ice bath and a spa bath, outside, with the city in front of you. Nine people at a time. It works as a team afternoon, a birthday, or six friends who would rather do this than another bar.
What is up there
The rooftop is the cheapest thing we do and the best thing we have, and it is the only part of the building that works properly with a group in it. Everything else here is one person in a room.
- Two saunas. Two, not one, so a group is not queueing or squashed into a single bench.
- An ice bath. Running at 6 to 8 degrees, which is cold enough to count and survivable enough that people go in twice.
- A spa bath. The part nobody expects and everybody ends up in.
- Nine at a time. That is the real number. Above nine it stops being relaxing and starts being a queue.
- Outside, over the Domain. At dusk it is the best hour of the day up there.
Two ways to do it
Either you book in as a group and share the rooftop with whoever else is up there, or you take the whole thing. For anything with a reason attached, a birthday or a team, take the whole thing.
- As a group, $45 each. Sixty minutes on the rooftop, booked per person, same as anyone else. Fine for three or four who just want to go together.
- Exclusive hire, $350. Sixty minutes, the whole rooftop, up to nine people, nobody else up there. That is under $40 a head at full capacity and it buys you the run of the place.
Exclusive hire is arranged by conversation rather than through the booking system, because it depends on the day and the time. Send us the date and the number of people and we will tell you what is free.
What it suits
The thing groups like about it is that nobody has to be good at it. There is no skill involved, no equipment to learn and no way to be the person who is bad at sauna.
Teams
An hour that is not a bar and not a ropes course. People talk more in a sauna than they do at a table.
Birthdays
Book the rooftop out, bring nine people, and it costs less than dinner for the same group.
Clubs and training groups
Run and cycling groups book it after a long one. It is the version of this that people actually repeat.
Questions
How many people fit?
Nine at a time on the rooftop. If your group is bigger than that, talk to us and we will split it across two slots rather than putting twelve people into a space that works for nine.
Does everyone have to get in the ice bath?
No, and in most groups about half do. The saunas and the spa bath are a good hour on their own, and the people who were never getting in the cold usually change their minds once somebody else has.
What does everyone need to bring?
Togs. Water and towels are here. Park in the underground carpark below the building, come in through the Next Gen entrance and say you are here for Renew. Nobody needs to be a member of anything.
Can we bring food or drinks?
Ask when you enquire. It depends on the group and the time of day, so it is a conversation rather than a policy on a website.
Can we add massage or anything else?
Massage needs a therapist and a booked room, so it depends on the day. PEMF, red light and compression are individual rooms downstairs and can be added around a rooftop booking if the group is small enough to rotate through them. Say what you are after and we will tell you what works.
Send us the date and roughly how many people. That is enough to tell you what is free and what it costs.
